BEHIND THE MUSIC

Darrell Spriggs, better known as SK (Seven King), was born in Victorville, California.  At an early age, he relocated with his family to Hampton, Virginia.  Shortly thereafter his parents divorced, leaving him with just him, his sister and mother.  Growing up, SK had aspirations of making it to the NBA or NFL.  Shortly after graduating from Bethel High School in 2001, his passion for sports led him to attend Allegany Junior College, based out of Cumberland, Maryland.  He attained a full basketball scholarship to attend there, but after one year he was released.  Although his scholarship was supposed to land him at Virginia Tech, this did not stop him from attempting to gain his collegiate education.  His pursuit of education landed him at Virginia State University.  He attended VSU from 2002 until 2004.  This is where a phase began in his life that resulted in him dropping out.  While attending VSU he was introduced to a new feeling of almost complete freedom to do what he wanted, as he wanted, whenever he pleased.  This newly acquired freedom at such an age and time in his life led him to focus more on having fun, losing passion and interest in his studies.  From as early as high school SK was always an avid music lover.  His major musical influences included Tupac Shakur and Michael Jackson.  He began to write songs and lyrics, gaining the attention and recognition of his peers while attending college.  His first song was recorded during this time frame.  Battle rapping being a part of life during those days in that environment, he was even approached by other battle rappers requesting that he write some lyrics for them to use.  In 2004 he returned to Hampton, Virginia, feeling that school was not of his interest any longer.  During this time in his life, his life consisted of working a nine to five, partying and writing lyrics.  This habitual partying behavior led to a fateful night in August of 2006.  While driving home after partying, SK lost consciousness while behind the wheel of his vehicle, running head on into a utility pole.  The extent of his injuries included the requirement of injections to prevent blood clotting in his hip, twenty four staples in his hip, a broken tooth, and tearing in his cartilage.  The severity of his injuries led to him having to learn how to walk again via strenuous physical therapy.  As tragic as it may have been, in retrospect this event was a blessing in disguise.  The resulting injuries of the car accident left SK on bed rest for three months.  During this time, SK was able to sit, focus, and vent his thoughts and feelings via lyrics.  In November, his daughter and biggest inspiration, Ne’Vaeh was born.  This time of healing and newly elevated inspiration allowed him to hone in on his writing capabilities, catapulting his skill level and confidence in his material.  Confidence elevated and insurmountable inspiration on his side, SK hit the studios and began recording his material.  He performed at various open mic events throughout Virginia under his previous moniker, Da General.  As Da General, he partook in two groups, before deciding to perform as a solo act, where he obtained the new moniker, SK which is the acronym for “7 King”.  As SK, he ended up creating the song, “In My Car”, with a member of a group of producers known as Lab Ratz.  The buzz surrounding the song led to the first high definition music video of SK being created.  Landing over one thousand views in it’s first day, within the first week alone the views reached a staggering three thousand views.  The song was placed in radio rotation at two major radio stations in the Hampton Roads area, including 103 Jamz and Hot 91.  Lacking a structured business plan, SK did not capitalize greatly from the attention of this single monetarily.  He did, however, use the buzz created from the popular single to attain opportunities to perform during shows, sharing the company of many notable artists like NORE, Styles P, Bubba Sparx, Nipsey Hustle, V.I.C. and Jody Breeze. Not one to limit himself to his local environment, SK has performed all over the eastern coast, and as far as California.  Confident and extremely prepared, Sk is more than ready to introduce himself on a much larger scale, bringing along with him the avid and consistent support of his core fan base.  His goals are to create a revenue stream for his family that will create generational wealth, inspire people who grew up in a urban or hostile environment, he wants to uplift those to try &  make the most of their life while they exist in the physical, there are more goals on the list but here are the long term items. SK aka “7 King”  is ready for the challenge, using the inspiration and will to succeed he has been taught via life lessons.
